Made by Ortho-McNeil Neurologics, Topamax is a prescription medication used to treat epileptic seizures in adults.  Topamax and its generic form, topiramate, have recently been placed in Pregnancy Category D by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA).  This is because studies have shown that babies born to women taking the drug are at increased risk of being injured by Topamax side effects.

Common side effects include Topamax birth defects. Common Topamax side effects include cleft-lip and cleft-palate in babies born to women taking the drug during pregnancy.  Surgery can correct these birth defects, especially when undertaken in early childhood – if not soon after birth. If your child has experienced Topamax birth defects, help is available from our legal team.

Our Topamax lawyers want to help parents help their children who have been injured because of Topamax exposure. If you get pregnant while taking Topamax, your child is at risk for Topamax birth defects. Please discuss your pregnancy, or plans to become pregnancy, immediately with the doctor who is prescribing Topamax for you.
